Terms of Service

Version 2.1 · Effective 23 October 2026. Replaces version 2.0 of 13 October 2026. New: how a contract is concluded online, the right of withdrawal and its model form, renewal reminders, complaints, reporting content, and the separate Licence Terms for schools and organisations.

1. Who we are

Eco Heroes is operated by Eco Heroes International SL, a Spanish company with tax identification number (CIF) B44915940, its registered office in Girona (Spain), registered in the Registro Mercantil de Girona. Contact: info@eco-heroes.org. Our full details are in the Legal notice.

In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Eco Heroes International SL. "You" means the person or organisation using Eco Heroes. A "consumer" is a person acting outside their trade or profession.

2. What these terms cover

These terms apply to the website eco-heroes.org and the Eco Heroes mobile app (together, "Eco Heroes"), including:

• the library of seventeen SDG picture books;
• the learning game, daily games and trivia;
• teacher accounts, teacher tools, handbooks, lesson materials and the teachers' area;
• the CPD course for teachers;
• family subscriptions.

These terms apply whenever you use Eco Heroes, and you accept them at checkout when you buy a plan. Licences for schools, companies and hotels are governed by our Licence Terms for Schools and Organisations, the accepted quote and our data processing agreement. Where those documents conflict with these terms, they prevail. The Eco Heroes Academy (learn.eco-heroes.org) and the VSME assessment (assessment.eco-heroes.org) have their own terms.

3. Who may use Eco Heroes

1. Eco Heroes is made for children and young people aged about 6 to 17, their families, their teachers and the organisations that work with them.
2. Children may play without an account. Signing in and every purchase are for adults: in the app behind a grown-up check, on the website with a confirmation at checkout that you are an adult.
3. Website accounts are personal accounts for adults: teachers, school administrators and parents or guardians who subscribe. A person who opens an account must act for themselves or for their organisation.
4. Parents, guardians and teachers decide whether and how a child uses Eco Heroes, and should supervise that use. Our Children's Privacy Notice explains what this means for a child's data.

4. Accounts and codes

1. Give accurate information when you open an account and keep it up to date.
2. Each teacher has their own named account. A school code is used only once, to create that account; after that you sign in with your own details.
3. Keep your password and sign-in secure. Two-factor sign-in is available to every teacher and coordinator and required for school administrators. Tell us at info@eco-heroes.org without delay if you think someone else is using your account.
4. Do not share your account. Class codes and access codes are for the class, family or organisation they were issued to. Do not publish them. A school administrator is responsible for the accounts and codes of their school and can close them.

5. Prices and payment

1. Part of Eco Heroes is free, for example the first goal (SDG 1) and the CPD course. A free teacher account with a verified e-mail address gives the handbook lessons and the teacher guide, without classes or members' content. Schools can ask for a free pilot with one or two classes (see the Licence Terms). Other content needs a family subscription or an organisation licence.
2. Try before you pay. SDG 1 is free without an account: its game chapter, trivia round and video. The free teacher account (handbook lessons and teacher guide only) and the free school pilot in point 1 are not trials of the family plan. There is no free trial of the paid plan; instead, every payment is covered by the 14-day refund in section 6. The checkout page shows the price and the billing period before you confirm.
3. Prices. Prices for consumers are shown in euros without VAT, and VAT is added at the rate that applies to your purchase. The family plan costs €79 a year for one child, plus VAT: for example €95.59 a year with Spanish VAT at 21%. Each child needs their own subscription. Before you pay, a summary shows the plan, the price without VAT, the VAT rate and amount that apply to you, the total price, the billing period, the renewal and how to cancel or withdraw; the payment page calculates the VAT from your billing address and shows the final total before you confirm. There are no other charges. Outside the EU no EU VAT is added. If you buy it for a business in another EU country and enter a valid EU VAT number at checkout, no VAT is added (reverse charge) and your invoice says so.
4. Renewal. A subscription runs for one year and renews automatically every year, at the price then in force, until you cancel it. We e-mail you a reminder about 30 days before each renewal with the date, the price and how to cancel.
5. Payment on the website is handled by Stripe. Payment in the app is handled by Google Play (or Apple, where the app is offered on Apple devices), which sells the subscription. We never see or store card details.
6. Price changes. We tell you about a price change before it applies to your next renewal. You may cancel before the new price applies.

6. Cancelling, withdrawal and refunds

1. Our 14-day refund. For subscriptions bought on eco-heroes.org, you may ask for a full refund within 14 days of any payment, including renewals. You do not need to give a reason. Use the "Cancel subscription / withdraw from contract here" button and choose "Withdraw from the contract", or write to us. We refund the full amount to the original payment method. Details are in our Refund Policy.
2. Your right of withdrawal. If you are a consumer, you may withdraw from the contract within 14 days without giving any reason. The period ends 14 days after the day the contract was concluded. To withdraw, tell us clearly: use the cancellation and withdrawal function, send the model withdrawal form, or write to info@eco-heroes.org. It is enough to send your notice before the period ends. We confirm receipt by e-mail without delay.
3. What happens when you withdraw. We refund all payments received from you without undue delay and no later than 14 days after we receive your notice, using the same means of payment, at no cost to you.
4. Access that starts at once. The plan is digital content that starts as soon as the payment is confirmed. At checkout you ask for access to start immediately and acknowledge that your legal right of withdrawal then ends when access starts (Spanish consumer law, TRLGDCU article 103(m); Directive 2011/83/EU, article 16(m)). Our own 14-day full refund in point 1 still applies, so you can still get all your money back within 14 days.
5. Cancelling. You can cancel at any time, as easily as you subscribed, with the "Cancel subscription / withdraw from contract here" button on the family page, in your account, in every e-mail we send you and on our cancellation and withdrawal page. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you have paid for and then does not renew. We confirm the cancellation by e-mail. If a request through the button does not include the access code of your plan, we first send a confirmation link to the e-mail address you used to pay and carry out the request when you confirm it there, within 7 days. This stops anyone else from ending your plan. Your request still counts from the moment you sent it, including for the 14-day refund.
6. Subscriptions bought in the app are sold by Google Play or Apple. Cancel them in your store account. Their terms apply to payment, cancellation and refunds of those purchases. If you need help, write to us.
7. This section does not reduce your statutory rights as a consumer, including the legal guarantee of conformity for digital content and services.

7. How the contract is concluded online

1. Steps. (1) You choose a plan. (2) You read the summary: plan, total price with VAT, billing period, renewal, cancellation and withdrawal, and these terms. (3) You tick three boxes: you accept these terms; you are 18 or over and the child's parent or legal guardian, or another adult buying for a child in your care; and you ask for access to start immediately. We record your acceptance. (4) You pay on Stripe's secure page. The contract is concluded when Stripe confirms the payment.
2. Correcting mistakes. Until you confirm the payment, you can go back, change the plan and correct your details. Stripe's page shows your details again before you confirm.
3. Confirmation. Within 24 hours we send you a confirmation by e-mail. It contains our company details, the plan, the price with VAT, the renewal date, your access code, how to cancel or withdraw, the link to the model withdrawal form and the version of these terms. Keep it: it is your copy of the contract.
4. Filing. We keep a record of each contract (date, plan, price, version of these terms) for as long as the law requires, and send you a copy on request. These terms stay available on this page; earlier versions are available on request.
5. Languages. You conclude the contract in the language of the page you use, which can be any of the 13 languages of the site. If two language versions differ, the English version prevails, unless the law of your country requires otherwise.
6. Codes of conduct. We have not signed up to any code of conduct.

8. Licences for schools, hotels and companies

1. Licences for organisations are offered by quote. The accepted quote, our Licence Terms for Schools and Organisations and our data processing agreement set out the term, the seats, renewal, invoicing, support and liability.
2. When a school or other organisation uses Eco Heroes with its pupils, staff or guests, it decides how the platform is used and is the data controller for that use. We process that data on its behalf under our data processing agreement (Article 28 GDPR), available from our Trust Centre at eco-heroes.org/trust/.
3. The organisation is responsible for informing pupils, parents, staff or guests, and for obtaining any consent that its law requires.

9. Acceptable use and reporting content

You must not:

• use a nickname, survey answer, homework note or other text that is offensive, discriminatory or contains anyone's real name or contact details;
• bypass the grown-up check, the paywall or any access control, or help a child to do so;
• manipulate scores or leaderboards, for example with automated play or repeated submissions;
• copy, download in bulk, scrape or redistribute the books, games, questions or teaching materials, except as section 10 allows;
• attack, overload or probe Eco Heroes, or try to reach data that is not yours. To report a security problem, see our security contact at /.well-known/security.txt;
• use Eco Heroes in a way that breaks the law.

Reporting content. Every entry on the public trivia leaderboard has a "Report" link. You can also report anything you think is illegal or breaks these terms to info@eco-heroes.org, in any of the 13 languages of the site. We answer in English, Spanish or Catalan, or in your language with the help of translation. We look at every report without undue delay. We remove content that is illegal or breaks these terms, tell the person who reported it what we decided and why, and, where we can reach them, tell the person concerned. You can ask us to look at a decision again. The same address is our single point of contact for users and authorities under the EU Digital Services Act.

10. Content and intellectual property

1. The picture books are protected works of their authors and illustrators. Eco Heroes publishes them under an exclusive licence for the education sector. The games, questions, texts, designs, software and the Eco Heroes name and logo belong to us or to our licensors.
2. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use Eco Heroes for learning and teaching while you have access to it. A family subscription is for use within the family. An organisation licence covers the use set out in its Licence Terms and quote.
3. Teachers may use teaching materials that we provide for printing or classroom use in their own teaching within their licensed organisation. Do not remove copyright notices and do not sell or publish the materials.
4. When you post a score on the leaderboard or answer a survey, you allow us to store it and, for the leaderboard, to show your chosen nickname and score publicly for 30 days, as described in our Privacy Policy.

11. CPD course and certificates

1. The CPD course for teachers is free. A certificate records that you completed the course and its assessment on Eco Heroes, and can be checked on our verification page.
2. Whether the course counts towards official professional-development requirements is decided by your employer or education authority, not by us.
3. Complete the assessment yourself. A certificate is personal to the person named on it.

12. Availability, content and changes

1. We work to keep Eco Heroes available and secure, but we cannot promise that it will always be available or free of errors. The current status is on our status page.
2. Our content is reviewed with care for accuracy and age-appropriateness. It is educational material, not professional advice.
3. Children should do real-world missions and activities with the agreement and supervision of a parent, guardian or teacher.
4. We improve Eco Heroes over time and may change or remove features. If a change significantly reduces what a paid subscription includes, we tell you in advance and you may cancel and receive a refund for the unused part of the period you paid for.
5. Accessibility. How far Eco Heroes meets accessibility requirements, what does not yet work and how to tell us about a barrier is in our Accessibility statement.

13. Ending your use

1. You may stop using Eco Heroes at any time. How to delete an app account, a website family plan's data or a teacher account is explained on Delete your account and data.
2. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or where the law requires it. Where possible we warn you first and explain why. If we close a paid account without fault on your part, we refund the unused part of the period you paid for.
3. What happens to your data when an account ends is set out in our Privacy Policy.

14. Liability

1. If you are a consumer, you have the legal guarantees that Spanish and EU consumer law give you for digital content and services. Nothing in these terms limits them.
2. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or wilful misconduct, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law.
3. Subject to points 1 and 2, we are not liable for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable, or for loss caused by events outside our reasonable control.
4. For organisations, liability is governed by the Licence Terms for Schools and Organisations.

15. Privacy

How we handle personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy, our Cookie Notice and our Children's Privacy Notice. For pupils using Eco Heroes through a school licence, the data processing agreement with the school also applies.

16. Changes to these terms

We publish every change on this page with a new version number and date. If a change materially affects account holders or subscribers, we tell them by e-mail before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you may cancel before the change applies to you.

17. Complaints

1. If something goes wrong, write to info@eco-heroes.org. We answer within one month at the latest.
2. Official complaint forms (in Catalonia, the fulls oficials de queixa, reclamació i denúncia) are available from us on request.
3. We have not joined a consumer arbitration system or any other alternative dispute resolution body. If we cannot settle your complaint, you can contact the consumer authority where you live; in Catalonia, the Agència Catalana del Consum (consum.gencat.cat).

18. Law and courts

1. These terms are governed by Spanish law.
2. If you are a consumer living in the EU, you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of your country of residence, and you may bring a claim in the courts of your country or in Spain.
3. For organisations, the courts of Girona (Spain), have jurisdiction, unless the Licence Terms or the accepted quote say otherwise.

19. General

1. If a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest stays in force.
2. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.
3. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another company that takes over Eco Heroes. We will tell you, and your rights as a consumer will not be reduced.
