2. What Eco Heroes provides
Eco Heroes is an educational platform that teaches the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to children ages 8–17 and the teachers who work with them. The platform currently includes:
- Interactive learning tools: The SDG Adventure Game (17 missions), AI-powered Trivia Challenge, and the Games Hub (Wordle, Connections, Crossword, Spelling Bee)
- Licensed children's literature: 17 original illustrated storybooks in multiple languages (available in the Library feature for paid subscribers)
- Teacher resources: Lesson plans, student handbooks, train-the-trainers materials, and classroom management tools
- Learning Management System: Integration with Moodle for formal educational tracking
- Multilingual support: Content available in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Catalan, and Arabic
- School access codes: Free unlimited access for verified schools and educational institutions
We may add, modify, or remove features over time. We will give reasonable notice of material changes that affect paid subscribers.
3. Creating and using an account
3.1 Account types
We offer several account types matched to different users:
- Individual / Family: For parents, guardians, and families using the platform at home
- School: For schools and educational institutions, accessed via a school access code
- Hospitality: For hotels and camping sites offering the platform as a guest amenity
- Corporate: For companies using the platform as an employee benefit or CSR initiative
3.2 Registration requirements
To create an account you must provide a valid email address and a secure password. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential. If you believe your account has been accessed by someone else, contact us immediately at info@eco-heroes.org.
3.3 Age requirements
Users under 14 in Spain (or the equivalent threshold in their country of residence) require verifiable parental consent before creating an account. See our Children's Privacy Notice for full details on the consent process.
3.4 One account per person
You may only create one individual account per person. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent usage limits or paywalls is a violation of these Terms.
4. Acceptable use
Eco Heroes is a platform for young learners. You agree to use it in ways that are appropriate for that audience and respectful of other users.
4.1 You agree not to:
- Upload, share, or link to content that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, obscene, or violates anyone's rights
- Impersonate another person or entity
- Attempt to access parts of the platform you are not authorized to access (including other users' accounts or administrative functions)
- Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access or extract data from the platform beyond what is permitted by our robots.txt
- Interfere with the platform's security, performance, or availability (including through denial-of-service attempts)
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the platform
- Use the platform to promote or distribute commercial messages, advertising, or marketing
- Download, copy, or redistribute copyrighted content (including the illustrated storybooks) except as explicitly permitted by your subscription tier
- Share your account credentials with anyone else
- Circumvent paywalls, access controls, or subscription limits through technical means
Violation of these rules may result in account suspension or termination without refund. For serious violations (such as attempting to harm children using the platform), we will report to the relevant authorities.
5. Subscriptions and payments
5.1 Subscription tiers
Current subscription pricing is displayed on our pricing page and may be updated periodically. All prices are shown in Euro (€) and include applicable VAT where required.
5.2 Payment processing
Payments are processed by Stripe Payments Europe, Limited (our payment processor). By subscribing, you agree to Stripe's terms of service and authorize automatic recurring charges according to the billing period you select (monthly or annually).
5.3 Billing period and renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you keep access until then, and you are not charged again afterward.
5.4 Refunds
As a consumer in the European Union, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal for distance contracts (RDL 1/2007, Art. 102). This means you can cancel within 14 days of your initial subscription and request a full refund.
Important exception: The right of withdrawal does not apply to digital content that has been supplied before the end of the withdrawal period, if you have given express consent and acknowledged that this will waive your right of withdrawal (RDL 1/2007, Art. 103(m)). If you access paid content (licensed books, advanced games, premium SDG missions) during the 14-day period, we consider this as using the service and the right of withdrawal no longer applies to the current billing period.
Outside the 14-day window, we do not offer refunds for already-paid billing periods. We may make exceptions for technical problems that prevented you from using the service, at our discretion.
5.5 Price changes
We may change subscription prices. Existing subscribers will be notified by email at least 30 days before any price increase takes effect. You can cancel your subscription before the new price applies if you do not agree with it.
5.6 Taxes
All prices include Spanish IVA (VAT) for consumers in Spain. For subscribers in other EU countries, VAT is calculated based on your country of residence per EU VAT rules. Business subscribers may provide a valid EU VAT number to receive reverse-charge invoicing.
6. Free access for schools
As part of our mission to make SDG education accessible, we provide free access to verified schools and educational institutions through school access codes.
To qualify:
- You must be a formally registered school or educational institution
- You must contact us at info@eco-heroes.org to request an access code
- We may verify your institution through public registries or direct contact
- Access codes are personal to the school — sharing them with other institutions, parents, or the public is a violation of these Terms and may result in code revocation
We reserve the right to limit, modify, or discontinue the free school access program for sustainability reasons, with at least 90 days' notice to affected schools.
7. Intellectual property
7.1 Our content
Everything you see on the platform — text, graphics, illustrations, character designs (April, Karim), game logic, lesson plans, book content, layouts, and code — is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. It is owned by Eco Heroes International SL, our licensors (including the authors and illustrators of the SDG storybooks — Ricardo Alcántara, Noemí Villamuza, and other contributors), or used with permission.
You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the platform for its intended educational purpose, according to your subscription tier. You may not copy, redistribute, sell, rent, or create derivative works from any of our content without our explicit written permission.
7.2 Licensed children's books
The 17 illustrated storybooks available through the Library feature are licensed to Eco Heroes for digital distribution by their respective authors and illustrators. Your subscription grants you the right to view these books online through the platform reader. Downloading, printing, screen-recording, or redistributing these books is not permitted under standard subscription tiers. Teacher-tier subscribers may receive additional rights specified in their subscription terms.
7.3 Your license to us
If you submit content to the platform (for example, custom trivia questions as a teacher), you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, display, and distribute that content as needed to provide the service. You retain ownership of your content.
8. User content
The platform has limited user-generated content features (for example, teachers can upload custom trivia question sets). If you submit content:
- You are responsible for what you submit
- You warrant that you have the right to submit it and that it does not violate anyone's rights
- We may review, remove, or refuse to publish content that we consider inappropriate for an educational platform for children
- We are not obligated to monitor or moderate user content proactively, but we will act on reports
9. Our responsibilities and limitations
9.1 What we promise
We will provide the platform with reasonable skill and care. We will make commercially reasonable efforts to keep it available, secure, and functional. We will respond to support requests in a reasonable timeframe. We will protect your data according to our Privacy Policy.
9.2 What we cannot promise
We cannot promise that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or immune to security incidents. We cannot promise that every third-party integration (Stripe, Moodle, Anthropic) will always work — these services have their own terms and limitations. We cannot promise that the educational outcomes of using the platform will match any specific learner's expectations.
9.3 Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Spanish law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the platform is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. For free users (including school access code users), our total liability is limited to €50.
This limitation does not apply to: damages caused by our gross negligence or willful misconduct; death or personal injury caused by our negligence; or any liability that cannot legally be limited under Spanish consumer protection law.
10. Your consumer rights
If you are using Eco Heroes as a consumer in the European Union, you have rights under EU and national consumer protection law that cannot be waived by these Terms. These include:
- The right to a 14-day withdrawal period for distance contracts (with the digital content exception noted in Section 5.4)
- The right to a service that matches its description and is fit for purpose
- The right to remedies (repair, replacement, price reduction, or refund) if the service is significantly defective
- The right to submit disputes to the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr
These rights apply even where these Terms might suggest otherwise.
11. Termination
11.1 Termination by you
You may terminate your account at any time by using the account deletion option in your settings or by emailing info@eco-heroes.org. Termination takes effect immediately for your access; your data will be deleted within 30 days (except data we are legally required to retain, such as transaction records).
11.2 Termination by us
We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially violate these Terms, if we are required to do so by law, or if we reasonably believe your use of the platform is harming other users or the platform itself. For paid subscribers, we will give reasonable notice except in cases of serious violation. For school access codes, we may revoke codes that are being misused.
11.3 Effect of termination
When your account is terminated, your access to the platform ends, your data is deleted according to our Privacy Policy, and no refunds are issued for the unused portion of a paid subscription (except as required by law).
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes:
- We will notify registered users by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect
- We will post a notice on our homepage
- We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document
If you do not agree with the updated Terms, you can terminate your account before the changes take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
13. Applicable law and disputes
These Terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by Spanish law, without regard to conflict of laws principles.
For disputes that cannot be resolved amicably, the courts of Spain have jurisdiction. For consumers in the EU, you may also bring claims in the courts of your country of residence, as permitted by applicable consumer protection law.
Before filing a formal legal claim, we encourage you to contact us directly at info@eco-heroes.org — most issues can be resolved by direct conversation in a few days.
